Circulation Policies*

 

All persons, regardless of their place of residence, may use the library collections free of charge while

in the library. Programming events are also open to non-residents free of charge.

 

Library Cards

 

Library cards are available at no cost to residents of  Bennington, North Bennington, Shaftsbury and Woodford.

 

Library cards are available to residents of outlying communities at a rate of  $16.50 per year for

individuals, $17.50 per year for families. 

 

Cards for students under the age of 18 are available for $3.00 per year.

 

Students attending area colleges may purchase a card for the non-resident fee. 

 

Children 5 years or older may have their own library card.

 

A parent or guardian for children five years old through middle school must sign the library card application,

thereby  assuming responsibility for materials borrowed on the child’s card.

 

 Library card applicants must provide a current form of identification with a street and

mailing address. (P.O. Boxes alone will not be accepted.)  The Library reserves the right

to check references before issuing new borrowers’ card.

 

Circulation Policy and Fine Schedule

 

Books, audio books, cassettes, non-current periodicals:

Three week circulation period with one renewal.

Fines of $.25 per day, after one day grace period.

Maximum fine per book of $5.00.

 

Interlibrary Loan:

Maximum 3 week loan.

Renewal of interlibrary loan materials subject to prevailing library policy.

ILL materials are fined $1.00 per day, per item, for each day overdue.

 

Rental Books:

Minimum three day rental charged.

Rental fee: $.25 per day, per item.

 

Reserve Books:

Three week circulation period with one renewal.

Books will be held for pick up for five days after notification of availability.

 

Videos:

7 Day loan.

Limit of 3 videocassettes or DVDs per family.

Videos may not be renewed.

Videos are fined $1.00 per item, per day,  for each day overdue.

 

Borrowers must present a valid library card when checking out library  materials. 

Special borrowing arrangements will be made for the disabled upon request.

Monday is half-fine day for books.

Renewals must be made in person.

Replacement cost will be charged for all lost or damaged items.
